This morning I got in my car at about 7:30 eager to start my 7:45 PC I Friday class. I threw may bags across the cabin onto the passenger seat, got strapped in and started the car. I shifted into reverse and eased off the break. I slowly turned my wheel and then I felt my car rub the curb.
I was a bit groggy, but this seemed strange to me. I thought I had a good 1.5 to 2 feet between my car and the curb. Oh well, I pulled forward a nudge and then backed out without cutting the wheel this time. What I saw next was a bit surprising.
A man was lying along side the curb with his head propped up smiling at me. Now I have seen some strange stuff in Waco before, but this was simply perplexing. Why would a person homeless or otherwise want to sleep in the 2 feet between my tires and the curb? Why wouldn't he move when my car started and I was getting in? Why wouldn't he make a sound when I was bumping him with my car? Why didn't he move after he was almost run over? Why was he smiling at me? Why didn't one of the night patrol people see this guy and toss him from the premises?
